Christmas Garland

 A Free Crochet Pattern

It's been a long while since I have offered a free pattern on the blog. I thought this one perfectly fit the bill to be a free pattern so here we are.

The first Christmas that I had my oldest, I wanted to have the perfect tree, but when you are on a limited budget like we were at the time expectations are often not met. I was feeling a little sad about it, and my mom encouraged me to just find a color theme and just make my own decorations with what I had. I ended up having some red and green fabric that I ripped up into strips and made ribbons with them. We had fake poinsettias that I took apart and put those on the tree. And it really ended up being a cute little tree. After that first Christmas, I always try and make something to add to the tree.

This year I decided on making some garland. I took a little inspiration from some garland that I found for $1.00 after Christmas last year. I wanted it to be mostly neutral with a little pop of color.

Where to find the pattern

Below is the free pattern instructions. It's written a little different than how I usually write patterns but for this pattern I thought steps would be better than rows, I have added a picture for each step to help along.

If you find this pattern helpful and you would like a copy to have on hand always. I have the PDF Available in my Ravelry shop, for a small fee. You can find the paid option for this pattern at the Link below: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/christmas-garland-23

Nativity Story Stockings

 A Knit E-Book

You might remember that last year I created the Bethlehem Cowl  I told the story of the nativity story through a stranded knitted cowl. This year I wanted to spruce up the charts and use them again with stockings. I took out the Mary and Joseph chart and added the wise men chart.

I have always wanted to have my own handmade stockings to hang up and bring out every year, and eventually pass them on to my kids. This year I finally accomplished getting them made. The Stockings tell the story of the birth of Jesus. They are a wonderful reminder of the whole reason we celebrate Christmas.

I used Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Yarn for these stockings. Each stocking uses 4 skeins of yarn. 2 for the main color and 1 each of the secondary colors. I love the traditional colors that I chose but there are lots of other options to choose.

Crochet and Knit Christmas Tags

A Free Crochet and Knitting Pattern

I love wrapping presents. It's one of my favorite things to do around the holidays. There is just something about folding the paper and finding creative ideas to make them look festive and beautiful at the same time. There are a lot of options for these.

I have a knit and crochet version for whatever craft you prefer. You can design the tag however you like. You could choose different holiday shapes like me, or you could embroider the monogram of the person you are giving the present to. Another idea would be to number them for an advent present calendar. Whatever you chose they will last for as long as you want them and they will add a personal touch to any gift.

Where can I get this pattern?

These are free patterns. Just keep scrolling down to find these patterns. These are also available for a free PDF download through my Ravelry Store. It's my way of saying Merry Christmas to you. Be sure to check out my other patterns in the shop if you like what you see.

Poinsettia Christmas Pattern

A Free Crochet Pattern

I am behind on the times. Last week I had a pattern that came out in Crochetvolution. You can find it here!
*Edit as of Nov. 2017* It is now also available on Designs by Diligence Here and it is available for purchase through my Ravelry Store.

Isn't it beautiful! I decided to watercolor it to make the design really pop. I was not disappointed. When I was done I thought that it would also make a really great Christmas ornament, so I got to work.

The pattern is very close to the original, I only changed the chs, to make it more rounded. I'm also pretty
happy with it too.

To starch it
I like to use a sugar starch. It is one part water and 2 parts sugar that is heated up on the stove till all the sugar is dissolved. With 1 cup water, 2 cups sugar I can get about 10 ornaments starched. When the mixture is heated though I will take it off the heat and dip my ornaments in the starch till it is completely saturated.

Then I will insert a balloon, blow the balloon up and tie it. Then I just hang the ornament to dry. It usually takes about 3 days. When the starch is dry I just pop the balloon and take it out. For this ornament I made some fabric bows and tied them with ribbon to hang on the tree.

Christmas Card Boxes

When the Christmas season starts winding down, and the Christmas card pile is over flowing I often have a hard time putting things away for the next season, and heaven forbid throw some of those cards away. I have a simple craft for you that will help you not feel so guilty about those cards.

I used to make these as a little girl so I know they are easy. First step is to separate the front and back of the card. Second with a pencil and ruler, draw a line an inch from both sides of the card on the front and the back. Then make a mark an inch and a half down the line on each side.Cut on the line till the mark, then fold the cards on the line.
Once that is done you will fold the cuts toward the center of the card. Pull up the larger flap around the cut flaps and fold it over. If needed put a piece of tape in the inside of the box.
These boxes can be used for boxing up little presents and storing little treasures.

Always Pointing North Blanket

A Free Crochet Pattern for a fast moving Motif and Blanket

Is anyone else starting to stress out about Christmas coming up soon? At some points I feel like I have it all put together, but at times I wonder if i am going to get all my projects done in time. I started working on Christmas presents in August.

The first one I got done is the one I will share with you. Hopefully this will be fun for my family because they will get to see it early but no one will know who is getting it.  Maybe they can have a raffle for it. Ha.

The things that I love about this free crochet pattern is that the motifs are only three rounds so I can sit down on the couch for a five minute break and get one done. Then it is a join as you go blanket, so you  can't lose any of your pieces, unless you lose the whole thing. I would not doubt that happening in my house with a toddler. I also like that you can make lots of different color patterns.

If you would like to see more color options click here.
